COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (CNN) -- At least five Sri Lankan soldiers
were killed Sunday when Tamil rebels ambushed the troops in a
pre-dawn attack in the north, military officials in the area
said.
Rebels raided the army's forward defenses at Chettikulam in
the Vavuniya district, 150 miles (240 km) north of the
capital Colombo. An official at the Ministry of Defense
confirmed the raid but said details were not available.
The attack comes three days after rebels killed at least 142
soldiers at a northern army base.
