LIMA, Peru (CNN) -- Tupac Amaru rebels, who have held hostages at the Japanese ambassador's residence in Lima for nearly a month, released another hostage Friday.

International Red Cross officials escorted the hostage from the compound to a waiting vehicle. The man was identified as Luis Valencio Hirano, the former anti-terrorism chief of the Peruvian government.

He was reportedly released for health reasons. No other details were immediately available.

There are 73 hostages left in captivity.
