TEL AVIV, Israel (CNN) -- A large explosion ripped through a coffee shop in downtown Tel Aviv Friday, killing four people and injuring at least 30. Among the injured was a 6-month-old baby who was burned over a large portion of his body, paramedics said.
Authorities report a caller claiming to represent the Islamic fundamentalist group Hamaas claimed responsibility for the blast. Officials cleared the area, fearing a second bomb may have been planted at the cafe on Ben Gurion Boulevard, a major thoroughfare in downtown Tel Aviv.
The explosion could be heard throughout the city, which was
crowded with revelers in costumes for the Jewish holiday of
Purim that began Thursday night.
