CAIRO, Egypt (CNN) -- President Hosni Mubarak held separate
talks Saturday with Jordan's foreign minister and U.S. envoy
Dennis Ross on the stalled Mideast peace talks. Ross, who
arrived at the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik from Israel,
said he was continuing his efforts to bring the Palestinians
and Israelis back to the negotiating table.
Talks between Palestinians and Israelis collapsed in March
after Israel decided to build a 6,500-unit housing project on
disputed territory on the outskirts of Jerusalem.
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, who has accused Ross of
taking Israel's side in the negotiations, has said he would
not resume talks unless Israel abandons its construction
plans.
Jordanian Foreign Minister Fayez Tarawneh said after his
meeting with Mubarak that Jordan and Egypt must cooperate to
keep the Mideast peace talks alive.
