Competitive elections mark new era in Mexican politics
Three major parties dominate the politics of Mexico -- the Institutional Revolutionary Party, the Democratic Revolutionary Party and the National Action Party.
This year's midterm elections are the most competitive to date. Emerging from the legacy of PRI dominance, the candidates have had little practice defining themselves or the issues for the public.
That means Mexico's politicians, like some of their peers abroad, have fallen back on personalities and partisan accusations to differentiate themselves.
