The bombs exploded within minutes of each other on Sunday night in the suburb of Kabalagala, a trendy area which boasts some of Kampala's best bars and restaurants. One of the bombs ripped through the popular Telex bar and another exploded at a grocery store a few meters (yards) away shortly before 10 p.m. "Three people died on the scene, one was declared dead at Mulago (hospital)," police spokesman Eric Naigambi said. At the open-air Telex bar, the floor was covered with blood, shattered glass and broken chairs and tables. Naigambi said at least 22 people were injured, although he said the number was probably higher as some were carried away from the scene before police arrived. A string of bomb attacks in Kampala last year were blamed on the rebel Allied Democratic Forces fighting the government mainly in western Uganda. Copyright 1999 Reuters Limited. All rights reserved.
