Street kids now nameless victims of Mitch

child November 13, 1998
Web posted at: 1:34 p.m. EST (1834 GMT)

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras -- (CNN) Identifying the dead in the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch is one of the major difficulties faced by Honduras.

Further complicating the task is the fact that no official records exist for thousands of children who fended for themselves on the streets of the capital before the storm. The names of the street children dug up from the mud that engulfed Tegucigalpa will probably never be known.

Correspondent Harris Whitbeck reports.
