SKOPJE, Macedonia (CNN) -- Some of the tens of thousands of
Kosovo refugees in Macedonia are leaving for other countries that have offered them temporary asylum. Families crowd the Skopje airport, waiting for the planes that will take them to a new life.
"We hope that soon we can come back to Kosovo again," said
Faton Bujupi, one of 600 refugees who was flown to Nuremburg,
Germany, on Wednesday.
All of the 10,000 refugees who are scheduled to fly to
Germany chose to make the trip, said Matthias Seeger of the
German Interior Ministry.
"The government will pay for their apartments, food and for
everything they need for life," Seeger said. They will not be
allowed to work, he added, during their temporary stay in the
country.
Few smiles were evident as the Germany-bound refugees passed
through security checks and boarded a crowded shuttle. While
the journey was taking them away from the fighting and
killing that has dogged them, it also was taking them far
from home.
"I feel very bad," said one woman before boarding a plane. "I
left my town and all that I have, everything."
