President Clinton is expected to sign a welfare
overhaul bill. The legislation would end a federal welfare
guarantee that has existed for six decades.
The Labor Department releases July employment figures.
The Senate expected to approve compromise health care
bill which is designed to broaden access to insurance for
millions of Americans and guarantee people don't lose
insurance when they change jobs.

On the horizon
On Saturday August 3, Bob Bell, who played Bozo the Clown on
WGN-TV from 1959-1984, will be inducted into the clown hall
of fame.
On Sunday August 4, the Centennial Summer Olympics in Atlanta
officially end.
On Monday August 5, a tentative trial date is set for former
Dallas police officer Johnnie Hernandez. He is accused of
plotting to kill Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin.
On Tuesday August 6, Swedish Prime Minister Goran Persson is
tentatively scheduled to visit Washington. He is expected to
meet with President Clinton to discuss European security and
developments in the Baltic region.
On Wednesday August 7, the Federal Reserve releases the
Beige Book regional economic survey and June consumer credit
report.

Saudi Arabia's most significant leadership shakeup since he
came to power in 1982.
