Wow why don't we introduce them to western style democracy??

They can chose Democrats controlled by Goldman Sachs
Or
They can chose Republicans controlled by Goldman Sachs

They can elect Republicans to go to war
Or
They can elect Democrats to go to war

They could watch Republicans hand the publics hard earned tax dollars to Wall street and Israel

Or

They could watch Democrats hand the publics hard earned tax dollars to Wall street and Israel

Compared to the amazing democratic choice in Wall Street, sorry I mean Washington hahaha, its amazing the Egyptians haven't been won over by western ideas!!

Filipe   November 25th, 2010 11:45 am ET

There goes the John A "I'm not an American" diatribe again!!!

Funny how you always post nonsense critical of the US government and then claim not to be an American.

You fool no one !!

John A   November 25th, 2010 4:58 pm ET

Filipe, you are a fool to yourself.

Meanwhile back to the non foolish world;

John A,

Taking Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan out of the equation, Egypt gets the second highest amount of aid from the US, whether run by the Democratics or the Republicans.
Unlike Israel's aid which is only military and mostly paid back into the US economy, Egypt's aid is economic and military and very little gets paid back.

Sinnce you claim not to be American and don't pay its taxes, leave it to the elected officials in the US to decide how they spend their money.

Jerkinp   November 26th, 2010 5:56 pm ET

There are only a few places in the Middle East that democracy might work and that is in Egypt and Jordan and maybe the Palestinian territories (depending on whether Israel allows Palestine to become country). Both Egypt and Jordan have their own people who want to have routine free and fair elections. In the case of Jordan the majority want it and the desire for it is strong. In Egypt while the elements are there it's weaker because the majority are poor and the autocratic government can buy their support. In both countries the autocratic rulers are backed by the West especially the United States. In both countries the Muslims Brotherhood standout from other parties because there the usually the ones out there taking the beatings and torture from the local tyrants security forces and keep moving forward.

miriam   November 28th, 2010 1:43 pm ET

Jerkinp,

As long as countries in the Middle East hang on to monarchies or family dictatorships as the heads of governments, western-style democracy is unrealistic.

The Muslim Brotherhood may appear keen to participate in seemingly democratic elections, but once they achieve power, they will remove any freedoms and rights characteristic of a democratic society. This is evident in Gaza, a Palestinian territory by the way, and the worry of the PA in the West Bank who have conveniently postponed elections in violation of its constitution. They graduate from tyranical, violent, repressed political groups to become tyranical and violent leaders, having abused attempts to promote democracy in order to abolosh it altogether.

OT (Off Topic) John A,

Just exactly who is this "we" that's going to introduce Egypt to ...western (US) democracy with you ????? Do you have a little friend in your pocket that goes everywhere with you ??

Exactly what form of government do you have where you live ????

I'm sure it's not as you descibed above...since you claim not to live in the US.

Smith in Oregon   November 29th, 2010 11:17 pm ET

The only way such despots in Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and in Egypt are voted out is by the people rising up and throwing their corrupt rulers and leaders OUT.

The human rights issues and charges are mounting in Egypt every year. America appears to turn a blind eye and blind ear to human right issues when it comes to Israel and Israel's few friends. No surprise.

miriam   November 30th, 2010 8:17 am ET

Smith,

The US is aware of the fact that Israel has countless organizations dealing with claims of human rights abuses and has an independent and internationally respected justice system to deal with any cases that require a legal process.

The actions or inactions of other countries has nothing to do with Israel.

University Rector   November 30th, 2010 10:11 am ET

Smith, American foreign policy is clear.

Any head of state can be a tyrant as long as he or she sucks up to America.

If mother Teresa were alive and elected as India's head of state, she would be smeared and bombed if she refused to suck up to America.

Out of interest, I am a Professor of Psychology Ph.D. I have analyzed the messages within "Inside the Middle East". The blogger referred to as "Filipe" appears inflexible, maladaptive, and antisocial. Such individuals are usually diagnosed with a personality disorders.

I believe in free speech, but CNN should take care and not allow obvious disorders to receive over exposure on this blog. Too much exposure is likely to encourage the disorder and does not help the individual in question.

The powerful Muslim Brotherhood with active branches worldwide on the official web page
JIDAH AGAINST NON-MUSLEMS IS OBLIGATORY/
A Muslim can come closer to Allah by waging jihad against all non-Muslims – Christians, Jews, atheists, or polytheists in every possible manner/
Dr. Ahmad 'Abd about Al-Walaa Wa'l-Baraaarticle in the "Muslim brotherhood,"
--

Ruling regimes ,Parties and Organizations with the ideology to impose by force- hate- phobia-fight the world are the most dangerousness to peace across the world.
-
They are using democracy to gain power latter to abolish democracy.
Regardless the government type, either dictatorship or democracy they are using the terror to impose their doctrine.

They should be outlawed worldwide.

Muslim brotherhood is a good example.

John A   December 6th, 2010 9:50 am ET

Ariely, several bloggers have already noted the poor state of your mental health. Isn't it time you also noticed?

Why do you have the need to spout nasty comments and place false words in Arabs mouths?

Why do Israelis think they can lie and cause war in the middle east for 60 years and then expect to hide behind Americas skirt, as the yanks foot the bill for Israels hostilities?

miriam   December 8th, 2010 8:55 pm ET

John A,

Once again you insult your friends.

Those words are indeed nasty but are in no way false.

The masters of the mouths that utter such speeches are proud of their opinions and will be appauled that one who propagates their other ideas should deny these.
