Angela Ards

Angela Ards is the Haywood Burns Fellow at The Nation Institute and writes for The Nation magazine. She has written articles for The Village Voice and VIBE magazines and a 50-page book on New York City housing policy exploring a public/private partnership to combat homelessness. She is a contributor to the book, "Still Lifting, Still Climbing: Contemporary Africa American Women's Activism" (New York University Press, 1999).

She has served as coordinator for a career development program for 70 adolescent mothers and as instructor for the Center for Afro-American Studies at the University of California. She is particularly interested in the impact of the criminal justice system on African-American youth.

Kevin Powell

Most people remember Kevin Powell from his days on MTV's "The Real World". Today Kevin writes for VIBE magazine and is the author of the May 1998 publication, "Keepin it Real: Post-MTV Reflections on Race, Sex, and Politics". In this collection of letters and reflections, Powell puts both himself and society under a microscope. He confronts such issues as racism, black self-hatred, gender violence, and his own anguished revelation about sex, love and misogyny. He also explores the meaning and myths of the Million Man March.

Michelle Jackson

A recent graduate of Clark Atlanta University, Michelle Jackson is Black History Editor for World African Network Online.

Jackson's articles for WAN's current celebration of Black History Month include: "Black Power: The Movement That Actualized Black Self-Determination", "Civil War: Moral Stance or Economic Dispute", "Ida B. Wells Initiates Post Reconstruction Protests, and "Black Wallstreet: Riot Destroys America's Affluent Black Community."

World African Network New Media provides daily news, sports, entertainment and lifestyle information about Africans throughout the diaspora to a world-wide audience via the Internet. Its website at www.wanonline.com, supplies news and information to a monthly audience of 70,000.
