His Story

In 1972, Joe Biden became one of the youngest senators ever elected to serve in the United States Senate. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden grew up in Wilmington, Delaware. He attended the University of Delaware where he majored in History and Political Science and then later earned his Law Degree from Syracuse University's College of Law in 1968. Before becoming a senator, Biden served on the New Castle County Council from 1970-1972.

During his six-term senate career, Biden served on as Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman.

Biden became President Barack Obama's running mate in 2008 and was elected Vice President in the same year. He became the Democratic nominee for vice president for the 2012 election in September 2012.

Biden, who referred to himself as "Middle Class Joe" grew up the eldest of four siblings in a Roman Catholic family. Biden is married to Dr. Jill Biden, who he married five years after the death of his first wife, Neilia. Neilia was killed in a car accident in 1972 along with their one-year-old daughter, Naomi while the family was Christmas shopping. Biden's two sons were critically injured in the accident, but survived. Hunter is an attorney and Beau currently serves as Delaware's Attorney General. Biden has one daughter with Jill, Ashley.

His Story

Born in Janesville, Wisconsin in 1970, Paul Ryan was the youngest of four children. He graduated from Miami University of Ohio with a Bachelor of Arts in economics and political science. During his college years, Ryan interned in the Wisconsin Senator Bob Kasten's office, volunteered for now-Speaker of the House John Boehner's congressional campaign and was a member of the College Republicans.

After Sen. Katsen lost to Russ Feingold in the 1992 elections, Ryan began working for Empower America -- which later became FreedomWorks -- as a speechwriter. There, he met his mentor Jack Kemp, the former New York Congressman and vice presidential candidate under Bob Dole.

Ryan was elected to the 1999 to the House of Representatives in Wisconsin's 1st District. During his time in the House, Ryan has served as the House Budget Committee Chairman and penned "The Path to Prosperity," also known as the "Ryan Budget," in 2012.

Ryan became Mitt Romney's vice presidential running mate in late summer 2012 and accepted the Republican vice presidential nomination not long after.

Ryan is known as an avid fitness buff and once drove the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile when he worked for the company in college. Ryan is married to Janna Ryan, a tax attorney. Together they have three children: Liza, Charles and Samuel.
