American swimmer and world record-holder Diana Nyad attempted to become the first person to swim between Cuba and Florida without a shark cage in August, 2011, at the age of 61. But ocean swells, shoulder pain and asthma forced her to give up the 103-mile swim 29 hours after she jumped into the water. CNN.com tracked Diana in near real-time during her record attempt.
