Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic became the first sitting head of state to be charged with war crimes when a U.N. tribunal accused him May 27 of responsibility for alleged atrocities in Kosovo. Milosevic and four other Serb officials were charged with the forced deportation of 740,000 ethnic Albanians and 340 counts of murder in seven separate incidents.
