Augusto Coerei, 20, works on the streets of Dili selling mobile phone prepaid cards.

"I came to Dili two years ago from my home in Baucau to try and find work. There is lots of business here but life outside of the capital is still very hard. In 1999 I was cornered by drunken militia men who threatened to shoot me just because I was trying to find food for my family. After that we fled to the forest for many weeks. I think independence will make life better because we are a tough nation and we’ll work together. My dream is to watch the World Cup -- I think Portugal will win this year."
