6 ex-officers who pleaded guilty in ‘Goon Squad’ torture of 2 Black men sentenced in state court

Six former Mississippi law enforcement officers who tortured two Black men for hours were sentenced in state court Wednesday to 15 to 45 years in prison.

Alabama has scheduled the execution date for the first inmate in the nation who will be executed by nitrogen hypoxia, an alternative to lethal injection, the governor said.

MNPD Officers Rex Engelbert, a 4-year veteran, and Michael Collazo, a 9-year veteran, were part of a team of officers who responded to the Covenant Church/School campus Monday morning and immediately entered the building.
