Moderate quake hits Southern California
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- A moderate earthquake shook Southern California on Saturday, but prompted no immediate reports of damage or injuries, officials said. The quake, which measured 3.9 and had an epicenter 8 miles north of Indio, California, which is about 25 miles southeast of Palm Springs, struck at 9:50 a.m. (12:50 p.m. ET), according to scientists at the California Institute of Technology. Riverside Fire Department spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said she had received no reports of damage or injuries. Fire officials were checking gas lines in the area for damage. RELATED STORIES:
