J. Lo opens Madre's
(In Style) -- The event: Celebrating her status as Hollywood's quadruple threat, Jennifer Lopez -- actor, singer, clothing designer and now restaurateur -- officially opened Madre's, a restaurant serving up Cuban and Puerto Rican fare in the heart of Pasadena, California.
The establishment is owned and operated by her family -- her dad, David, will be managing the hot new hang-out.
THE GUEST LIST
Nicole Kidman, Ben Affleck, "Will & Grace"'s Megan Mullally, Jay and Mavis Leno, Maria Shriver, Brooke Shields, Garcelle Beauvais, Christian Slater, Carmen Electra, Dave Navarro, Anthony Kiedis, Scott Foley, Lakers Kobe Bryant, Robert Horry and Derek Fisher, and more.
Decorated by Shabby Chic's Rachel Ashwell, the vibe was Havana flair, with 40 twinkling crystal chandeliers, white petticoat-style tablecloths and antique fans. To make each setting unique, everything was handpicked by Ashwell, right down to the salt and pepper shakers and the china. For the opening, a tented lounge was added, where guests smoked freshly rolled cigars or sipped champagne and mojitos.
The opening-night feast included fried plantains, empanadas, barbecued ribs, ceviche, steak and onions, flan and rice pudding. "I love the steak!" gushed Lopez. "Ohmygawd, it's to die for."
Wearing a beige vintage John Anthony dress, Lopez appeared to be having the time of her life. After taking a break from burning up the dance floor with her friends, she rolled a stogie with the help of a professional cigar roller hired for the evening. "Isn't this fun?" she asked gleefully. Affleck gave J. Lo congratulatory flowers and hugged Chef Rolando after helping himself to plenty of plantains. But he was most impressed by his gigglie co-star's ability to draw a huge posse of press. "Jennifer Lopez is opening a restaurant and I don't know who's covering the world news for Reuters," said the actor of the line of reporters by the entrance. "Is there anybody on the Middle East beat?"
