Gutenberg Gymnasium School factfile

(CNN) -- Gutenberg Gymnasium School was opened in 1991 in the eastern German city of Erfurt.

  • It was formed from a previous school built in 1908.

  • Last year Gutenberg Gymnasium, which has about 750 pupils aged 10-19, held a series of events to mark its 10th anniversary, including a big school celebration in September and a ball for former pupils in December.
  • A running relay was also held with 365 people taking part.
  • It has a twin-school relationship with Max-Planck High School, Munich, and Bowling Green High School, Kentucky, according to its Web site.
  • About 200,000 people live in Erfurt, formerly in East Germany, some 200 kilometres (125 miles) southwest of Berlin.
  • Erfurt dates back to the 13th century and has a cathedral and a university.
