LONDON, England -- U.S. rock star Courtney Love has been arrested at London's Heathrow Airport after arriving on a trans-Atlantic flight.

Virgin Atlantic said Love, 38, had been "verbally abusive" to cabin crew during the flight from Los Angeles on Tuesday. The airline said police were called and were waiting when the flight landed.

Love was escorted off the plane by two officers and put into a police van about 20 minutes after the plane landed.

"She was having a row with one of the flight attendants," one passenger told reporters.

"There were a lot of raised voices. But Courtney Love is Courtney Love -- I guess that's rock 'n' roll," the witness said.

Love, the widow of the late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, was on flight VS8, which landed at Heathrow at 11 a.m.

The lead singer for the band Hole was travelling in Virgin's Upper Class cabin when she became disruptive, and the captain called police during the flight, an airline spokeswoman said.

"She was verbally abusive towards our cabin crew and disruptive," the spokeswoman said.

"Disruptive passengers are rare but like other British airlines, we take their behaviour very seriously."

Another airline spokesman said: "We won't tolerate disruptive behaviour and the matter is now in the hands of the police."

Love is reportedly in London for this week's benefit at the Old Vic theatre by Sir Elton John and actor Kevin Spacey. (Full story)
