(CNN) -- Terrorism remains one of the top concerns among voters for the upcoming midterm election, according to recent polls.

We asked CNN.com readers to send in their thoughts on the terrorism issue and how it will affect their vote this November. (Share your comments.)

Here is a selection of responses, some of which have been edited:

Because the Bush administration's invasion of Iraq, its institution of secret jails, its use of torture, and its failure to provide prisoners with even the most minimal of recognized legal rights have failed to curtail the rise of terrorism in the Middle East (indeed they've served only to increase it) and because the Republican Congress has made no effort to secure our borders and ports -- I vow never to vote for any Republican for any office, no matter how big or small. Yes, terrorism and homeland security is a big concern of mine. That's why I'm looking at people who will actually do something about it. It's certainly not the Republicans.
David Williams; Louisville, Kentucky

Bush has created most of the terrorist bug-a-boo himself in an effort to hang on to Republican control of Congress. I will vote against any candidate who supports/supported Bush.
James Benoit; Olathe, Kansas

Combating terrorism is the greatest challenge America and the rest of the civilized world are facing, so for me it is the most important issue in this coming election. I will support a candidate who stands firm and has the will to destroy them before they destroy us.
Daniel Hernandez; Miami, Florida

I want out of this administration and Republican stranglehold on the government. I don't feel any safer than before the last election and I refuse to be shell-shocked any longer.
Michele Frampton; Jonestown, Pennsylvania

I am voting Democratic and Libertarian this year. The Republicans have ruined our world reputation. They are angering the world and it may result in more terrorism towards us. They have bankrupted the nation, which will affect our ability to put into place more border protections. I think because of the actions of the current administration we'll be seeing more "homegrown" terrorism.
Janet Hitt; Sugar Land, Texas

Any candidate who votes to weaken our ability to track down and kill these terrorists I will vote against. Any candidate who attempts to turn this into a politically correct war I will vote against. Any candidate who does any of the above I consider a threat to the safety of my family and America and I will vote against them.
Andrew Schiro; Brick, New Jersey
