(CNN) -- Five drug-trafficking suspects were killed and seven federal police officers were wounded Tuesday in clashes in the Mexican border town of Reynosa, police said.

The shootout involving the suspects, federal police and members of the Mexican army occurred on the streets of the Las Fuentes neighborhood of the city, which is across the border from McAllen, Texas, police said.

Video from the scene shows a reporter from the Mexicanal network lying belly-down on the asphalt to avoid being shot as round after round of gunfire echoes around him. Footage from the aftermath shows the bloodied bodies of at least four men splayed on a city street or in a car.

Mayor Oscar Luebbert Gutierrez told CNN that violence in Reynosa "is not as bad as it is in Tijuana and Juarez," where drug killings have claimed hundreds of lives in the past year.

Luebbert said early in the evening that calm had returned to the city. "Now, it's all very tranquil," he said.

CNN's Roberto Pazos and Krupskaia Alis in Mexico City and Traci Sabo in Dallas, Texas, contributed to this report.
