(CNN) -- The 2010 Masters marked an emotional return to the major winner's circle for Phil Mickelson as he claimed a three-shot victory over England's Lee Westwood at Augusta National.

The 39-year-old American donned the famous Green Jacket for the third time after carding a superb final round 67 to finish on 16-under-par for the championship.

Mickelson's wife Amy, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, watched on as he holed a birdie putt on the final green to seal his fourth major title.

The timely win takes him back to number two in the world behind Tiger Woods, who finished tied for fourth on his return to golf.

For Westwood, this was the third major in a row in which he has finished in the top three, and his wait goes on for a first major title.
