Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- Militants Friday attacked a security checkpoint, killing five soldiers and injuring two others in Pakistan's tribal region, a senior military official told CNN.
The militants attacked the post in the area of Sararogha in South Waziristan, one of the seven districts of Pakistan's volatile tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
Security forces killed several militants, the official said.
The military official asked to not be named because he was not authorized to talk to media.
