Seven alleged militants were killed and nine arrested during a clash with security forces in Pakistan’s southwest province of Balochistan, said Murtaza Baig, a spokesman for the security forces.
The suspected militants were killed when troops retaliated after an attack on their convoy in the area, Baig said.
Authorities also recovered a “huge cache” of weapons, Baig said.
The security personnel were guarding vital gas installations in the area when they were attacked. Nine suspected militants wounded in the clashes were arrested and were being interrogated, Baig said.
The incident comes one day after security personnel killed three militants in the Dera Bugti area of Balochistan.
Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province, lies along the border with Iran and Afghanistan, and has seen frequent violence between suspected militants and security forces.
