Two suspected U.S. drone strikes killed 14 militants in Pakistan’s tribal region on Friday, two Pakistani intelligence officials told CNN
Both strikes happened in South Waziristan, one of the seven districts of Pakistan’s volatile tribal region bordering Afghanistan, according to the two Pakistani officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Four missiles were fired by a suspected U.S. drone on a militant hideout near the main town of Makin, killing eight militants, and two missiles were fired on a vehicle near Nishpa, killing six militants there, the officials said.
The United States does not publicly acknowledge its drone program, although President Barack Obama commented on such strikes in January and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta acknowledged the use of CIA predator drones in the region last year.
There was also some fighting in Pakistan’s North Waziristan province on Friday, during which seven Pakistani soldiers and nine militants were killed, according to two military officials.
