An Afghan police officer opened fire Monday inside a security compound in Gardez, Afghanistan, wounding two advisers from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force, authorities said.
Coalition soldiers returned fire and killed the attacker, Paktia province police Chief Zalmay Oryakhel told CNN. The shooting is under investigation, he said.
Maj. Michael Odle, a coalition press officer, confirmed the attack but declined to comment any further on the circumstances.
Meanwhile, nine people died in the Tewra district of Ghor province when a roadside bomb exploded. Local villagers dug up the bomb, which then exploded during efforts to disarm it, according to Abdulhai Khatibi, the spokesman for Ghor’s provincial governor.
