What most people consider sugar is refined <a href="http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods/show/6202?fg=&man=&lfacet=&format=&count=&max=25&offset=&sort=&qlookup=sugar" target="_blank" target="_blank">granulated sugar</a>, or white sugar, which is derived from sugarcane or sugar beets. Common in foods, it has less nutrients than other natural sweeteners due to a refining process. Calories per tablespoon: 48.
