Washington CNN  —

The upcoming Batman movie has a star-studded cast, featuring the likes of Ben Affleck, Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne — but no star shines as bright as Sen. Patrick Leahy.

Affleck confirmed the Vermont Democrat will appear in the upcoming Batman movie, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” during his testimony at a hearing of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Diplomacy and National Security on Thursday.

“To Senator Leahy, I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge my co-star in Batman,” said Affleck, who plays the caped crusader/Gotham City millionaire Bruce Wayne in the latest installment out next year. “The role is marginally smaller than mine, but I understand you’re quite good.”

Leahy has repeatedly stolen the show from his somewhat better-known Batman co-stars; he’s appeared in “Batman and Robin,” “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises.” Perhaps his most memorable turn came during 2008’s “The Dark Knight,” in which he delivered the scene-stealing line, while being threatened by Heath Ledger’s Joker: “We’re not intimidated by thugs.”

With the confirmation that the top Democrat on the Justice Committee is slated to appear in the latest installment of the Batman saga, perhaps the “Dawn of Justice” truly is upon us.
