Lance Armstrong cycled a stage of the Tour de France for a leukemia charity, a day ahead of the competing riders.

It was the first time the American, 43, rode a stage of cycling's premier event since being stripped of his record seven titles in the race due to long-term doping offenses.

Armstrong was joined by 11 other riders in Thursday's 198-kilometer (123-mile) leg of the "One Day Ahead" event.

Meanwhile, Spanish rider Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver won his second leg of the 2015 Tour for Team Katusha in Thursday's stage 12 -- a rain-hit 195 km trek between Lannemezan and Plateau de Beille.

Britain's Chris Froome, pictured here behind Team Sky colleague Geraint Thomas, retained the leader's yellow jersey. Froome, the 2013 race winner, was two minutes and 52 seconds ahead of American Tejay van Garderen.
