In a historic two-day visit to Kenya late last month, U.S. president Barack Obama praised the country's rise in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi, Obama stressed how young entrepreneurs across Kenya and Africa are lifting up people's lives by creating new jobs and services.
It was a sentiment shared by the country's president, Uhuru Kenyatta, speaking at the summit alongside Obama: "The narrative of African despair is false, and indeed was never true... Let them know that Africa is open and ready for business."
