New Delhi CNN  —

At least 178 people have been killed in recent days by flooding across India, authorities said Tuesday.

The floods and heavy rains have affected an estimated 10 million people in both western and eastern India, said Kuldeep Dhatwalia, a spokesman for the Home Ministry.

“We are still struggling to control the situation,” he told CNN.

About 400,000 people have been moved to relief camps.

Water from overflowing river dams is exacerbating the problem, Khan told CNN.

The heavy rains were brought by Cyclone Komen, which made landfall on the coast of neighboring Bangladesh late last week.

In Myanmar, another country in the region, heavy monsoon rains in the past month have left at least 47 people dead and displaced more than 150,000 others.

Myanmar President Thein Sein declared natural disaster zones in Rakhine and three other areas on Friday.
