Louis van Gaal's less than impressive season continued as Manchester United lost 2-1 in the Europa League to FC Midtjylland Thursday.
The Dutch coach blamed the defeat on "the law of Murphy," referencing the old adage which states that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
Former United player Paul Scholes has been highly critical of Van Gaal this season, much to the chagrin of the Dutchman.
United was taking in part in the Europa League after it suffered an early exit in the Champions League group stages earlier in the season.
The Old Trafford club's domestic performances have also come in for criticism this term, none more so than this laborious FA Cup victory against third-tier side Sheffield United.
Van Gaal waves as he leaves after December's 2-0 Premier League defeat at Stoke.
A Stoke fan wears a Jose Mourinho mask and poses with a "P45" slip (which is handed to UK workers when they are fired from or leave a job) for Van Gaal, suggesting the Dutchman will be sacked by United and replaced by the former Chelsea boss.
