Next month, Japan will mark the fifth anniversary of the Fukushima disaster, when a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit on March 11, 2011, leaving more than 15,000 people dead, destroying coastal towns and causing reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant to suffer catastrophic meltdowns. Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), which runs the Fukushima Daiichi plant, opened up the facility on February 10 to brief journalists on cleanup efforts.
