Biden: ‘I would have been the best president’

Vice President Joe Biden said in an interview that aired Wednesday he would have been the “best president” had he run for the highest office in the land.

“I think I would have been the best president, but it was the right thing not just for my family but for me,” not to run, Biden said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

He revealed that he had planned on making a bid for the White House but that after the death of his son, Beau, he decided against it.

“No one should ever seek the presidency unless they’re able to devote their whole heart and soul and passion into just doing that. And Beau was my soul,” Biden said.

The vice president also predicted that Hillary Clinton will win the Democratic nomination and be elected president.

“I feel confident that Hillary will be the nominee and I feel confident she’ll be the next president,” Biden said.

Clinton currently leads the Democratic race among pledged delegates and is on track to be the party’s nominee, but she continues to lose some contests to Bernie Sanders, who has vowed to stay in the mix until July’s Democratic convention.

Biden mulled whether to run for the Democratic nomination last year, before he put an end to the speculation in an October announcement that he wouldn’t seek the presidency.

“My one regret is my Beau’s not here,” Biden said in the ABC interview. “I don’t have any other regrets.”

Beau Biden died last year of brain cancer. His father currently leads the cancer “moonshot” initiative to improve cancer research and treatment.
