Floods, landslides kill 135 people in China

Beijing (CNN)Heavy rains triggered flooding and landslides in China this week, leaving at least 135 people dead, local authorities and state media reported.

More than 100 people are missing following the storms in Hebei, Henan and Shanxi provinces, official news agency Xinhua said.
The flooding occurred between Monday and Thursday and affected nearly 8.9 million people, the Civil Affairs Department said.
    More than 52,000 houses collapsed and an additional 161,000 were damaged, according to the Civil Affairs Department.
    This year's flood season has been the worst since 1998, according to state media.
    The 1998 floods led to the deaths of almost 4,000 people.
