The child soldiers of South Sudan

Thousands of children have been forced to join the military and other armed groups in South Sudan since the civil war broke out in 2013. At a laying down of arms ceremony in the town of Yambio this month, over 200 child soldiers were released. Although more than 500 child soldiers have been freed this year, UNICEF says "19,000 children are still serving in the ranks of armed forces and groups" in the country.
