Mark Cavendish: Epstein-Barr virus forces cyclist to take 'total rest'

    Mark Cavendish is to take a break from cycling to recover from Epstein-Barr virus.

    (CNN)British cyclist Mark Cavendish, one of the sport's leading sprinters, is to take a break from the sport "due to the presence of Epstein-Barr virus," says his team.

    Cavendish, who is the 2011 world road race champion, is second on the Tour de France's all-time stage win list.
