From: John King/CNN White House correspondent Subject: Clinton wants Bowles to delay departure White House sources tell CNN that President Bill Clinton wants Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles to delay his resignation and stay on at least into early 1998. Clinton was golfing with Bowles on Tuesday to discuss the timetable for the chief of staff's departure. Bowles has told friends he wants to return to his business interests in North Carolina and leave the White House perhaps as early as the end of this year. Two officials tell CNN that Clinton wants Bowles to stay on and is prepared to feel him out Tuesday on the subject. Said one: "He would love another year and would take another six months. He really hasn't had time to focus on a replacement and believes Erskine is doing a great job." The other said that Clinton understood Bowles' desire to return home, however, and said, "The question is how hard will he push?" In Other News:Tuesday Nov. 18, 1997
