April 21, 1948 Gary Condit is born the son of a Baptist minister in Woodland Junction, Oklahoma, near Salina.

1962-67 The Condit family moves to Tulsa, Oklahoma, when Condit's father, the Rev. Adrian Condit, takes a position in another Baptist church. Gary attends junior high and high school in Tulsa.

1967 At 18, Condit marries high school sweetheart Carolyn Berry. The couple have their first child, son Chad, in July. During the same year, Condit's father becomes a pastor in Ceres, California, and the family moves west with him.

1970 Condit receives an associate degree from Modesto Junior College in California.

1972 After earning a bachelor's degree at California State University, Stanislaus, Condit wins a Ceres City Council race.
1975 Condit's second child, daughter Cadee, is born September 7.
1976 Condit begins a six-year term on the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors.
1983 Condit serves in the California Assembly from 1983 to 1989.
1988 As a member of the "Gang of Five," a group of moderate-to-conservative Assembly Democrats, Condit helps challenge liberal Assembly Speaker Willie Brown. The group is unsuccessful in its attempt, and members loose leadership positions, choice committee assignments and other advantages.
1989 Condit is elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
1995 Condit co-founds the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of conservative Democrats in the House. Condit continues to cross party lines, often voting with Republicans on issues.
2001 Condit receives considerable media attention surrounding the disappearance of former intern Chandra Levy, 24, as rumors spread that the two were having an affair. Condit initially denies a romantic relationship, but police sources said the congressman confirmed that the two did have one. District of Columbia police repeatedly said Condit is not a suspect.
2002 Condit loses the March 5 Democratic primary by a wide margin to state Assemblyman Dennis Cardoza. On May 22, police identify skeletal remains found in a Washington park as Chandra Levy's. The mystery of her death remains unsolved.
