Lee Pleads Guilty to Felony Mishandling Classified Data

Aired September 13, 2000 - 2:12 p.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: Again our breaking news, now about 12 minutes old, was settled in a U.S. courthouse in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when prosecutors and defense attorneys got together with a federal judge and agreed on a reduced sentence of time served for Wen Ho Lee, the physicist who was originally charged with violating nuclear secrets at the Los Alamos Nuclear Lab. He now gets to go free.

He will be out of the courthouse this afternoon. We're expecting a live coverage of a news conference that will, we're told, include comments from the prosecuting and defense attorneys. Whether Dr. Lee will be heard from is problematical. If it happens, we will bring it to you live.
