California Police in Standoff with Hostage-Takers at Target Store in Culver City

Aired November 6, 2000 - 9:46 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Want to bring you some more live pictures now from Culver City, California, in southern California, where police are dealing with a gunman standoff. They believe that as many as three gunmen are holding a number of hostages inside a Target department store in Culver City.

All of this is taking place at 6:45 California time, long before the store opened. The police received a call a while ago from employees inside the store saying that the gunmen had come before the store opened up. And then police have a difficult situation as they lead employees, the live picture you can see now, as they lead employees outside of the store.

As they understand it, the gunman once inside the store, put on Target employee clothing, making it very difficult for police to figure out who's an employee and who might be a potential gunman, so they're handling that situation very carefully and trying to stabilize the situation there.

We have a number of reporters on the scene. We're using our affiliate services, and we'll bring you the latest as it comes in to us here at CNN.
