CNN BREAKING NEWS

Truck Crashes Into Gas Station In Spanaway

Aired January 30, 2003 - 14:27   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: We're going to interrupt this briefing and take you now to the state of Washington. You're looking at live pictures here coming to us from KTV just south of Tacoma. This is Spanaway, Washington, where you are looking at the aftermath of a pickup truck that crashed into a gas station there.
Now apparently there was one person that was injured a vehicle that hit that truck. These are all -- this information coming to us from associated press and local radio stations there. Apparently it all started when the driver was going more than 100 miles per hour on the highway. This is Highway 7 in Spanaway, which has now been closed and people have been evacuated because we are dealing with obviously highly flammable gasoline.

He collided with another vehicle here at the intersection and the truck ended up at the gas station. The red truck there. He then -- the driver, went and spoke with one of the state troopers, and told them -- told him that inside the truck there are apparently explosives. So, of course, there are bomb sniffing dogs that will go check this out. Once again, you're looking at an area just south of Tacoma, Washington, Spanaway, where a pickup truck has crashed into a gas station.

We don't see too many people responding other than what you see here on the bottom right of your screen trying to defuse the situation. One person injured at this point that we know about where a vehicle hit the truck. We'll wait to hear more about this. Once again, that area has been evacuated and Highway 7 in, Spanaway, has been closed down. We will keep an eye on this.
