Republican Greg Abbott is seeking a third term as Texas’ governor. CNN projects that he will be the Republican nominee to face former Democratic Rep. Beto O’Rourke, now in his third campaign in five years after losing bids for US Senate and the White House. A Democrat hasn’t held the position since Ann Richards, who was defeated by George W. Bush in 1994.
