Living in sustainable luxury in the ‘Lantern House’ on Banana Island, Lagos

Designed by award-winning Nigerian architect Tosin Oshinowo and her firm, cmDesign Atelier, the "Lantern House" is a private residence on Banana Island, the most exclusive and expensive neighborhood in Lagos, Nigeria.
The project was completed near the end of 2022. Banana Island, a 1.6 million-square meter, man-made island in the Lagos Lagoon, is home to many of the country's wealthiest people, including celebrities and expatriates.
The Lantern House is cmDesign Atelier's first private residential project on the island. The five-bedroom, seven-bathroom, three-story sustainable home is powered entirely by solar energy. The interior, designed by the client (who runs an interior design firm in Lagos, according to the architecture firm), contrasts the minimal style with bold colors and patterns.
The residence also features a pool, pictured. Oshinowo says seeing her vision for the home come to life was fulfilling. "It's one thing to produce great conceptual design. It's another thing to execute it to a seamless finish," she says.
