Mohammed Bin Rashid Library: Dubai's Mohammed Bin Rashid Library opened on Dubai Creek in Al Jaddaf in June 2022.

Repository: It's home to more than 1.1 million print and digital books housed in a 54,000 square-meter facility.

Rarities: The Treasures of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library exhibits rare manuscripts and first editions on the seventh floor.

The Children's Library: The library is closed to under-fives, but older children can meet Pepper, a humanoid storytelling robot.

Dubai culture: "A lot of people like shopping malls, but a lot of people like books too," says Jamal Al Shehhi, Emirati author, publisher and member of the new library's board.

Growing collection: Alongside its multilingual print and digital books, visitors can access more than six million dissertations, 73,000 musical scores, 75,000 videos, 35,000 printed and digital international journals, and over 5,000 historical periodicals.

No expense spared: The new library has a Dubai-sized price tag, reportedly having cost one billion dirhams, around US$272 million.

Future of Dubai: "This iconic building is giving the message that the cultural background does exist in Dubai, and there is nothing better than books to deliver that message," says Al Shehhi.
