All 44 Kroger employees in the store during the shooting have been accounted for, police say

There were 44 Kroger employees in the store during the shooting Thursday afternoon, the town's police chief, Dale Lane, said at a news conference.

All these employees have been accounted for, Lane said while commending law enforcement on their response at the scene.

"We are a resilient community," Lane said.

The number of shooting victims, 14, has not changed, the chief added.

Lane identified the shooter, who apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, as a male.

Prayer vigil planned in Collierville following Kroger shooting

The Collierville First United Methodist Church will hold a prayer vigil from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. local time in the wake of Thursday’s fatal shooting at the Kroger supermarket in town, according to a Facebook post by the church.  

What we know: At least one person was killed and 14 others injured in a shooting at a Kroger in Collierville, Tennessee, police officials said.

The shooter was also found dead, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Police Chief Dale Lane said. The shooter was found dead at the rear of the store, the chief said.

"This is a horrible day in Collierville. Our hearts go out to the victims, families, and friends involved in the senseless tragedy. Please keep our community in your thoughts and prayers," Lane said in a statement. "At this time, there are no known threats to the Collierville community and our department is working diligently to prevent further violence."

9 shooting victims taken to Regional One Health Medical Center

Regional One Health Medical Center in Memphis received nine patients from the shooting at a Kroger in Collierville, Tennessee, Thursday afternoon, Angie Golding, director of corporate strategic communications, told CNN.

Of the nine, four were in critical condition, Golding said.

Kroger employee says shooter came up right behind them and started firing

A Kroger employee described the scene inside the store in Collierville, Tennessee, where she said a shooter started firing at her and her coworkers as they tried to hide.

Brignetta Dickerson told CNN affiliate WMC that when the shooting started she thought it was just "balloons popping."

Dickerson, who has worked at Kroger for 32 years, told WMC she was working the cash register when the shooting began in the deli section of the store. She told WMC that she ran with some of her coworkers to try to hide but the shooter came up right behind them and started shooting.

“He kept on shooting, shooting, shooting,” Dickerson said. “He shot one of my coworkers in the head, and then shot one of the customers in the stomach, and then my other customer got kinda like cuts from the asphalt.”

“I’m a little bit scared and a little bit shaky but I’m OK,” Dickerson said.

Kroger says it's cooperating with law enforcement following shooting

The Kroger Co. issued a statement on Thursday following the shooting at their Collierville, Tennesse, store, which left several people injured and one person dead.

“We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at our Kroger store located on New Byhalia Rd. in Collierville, TN – a suburb of Memphis,” the grocery chain’s statement said. “The entire Kroger family offers our thoughts, prayers and support to the individuals and families of the victims during this difficult time.”

Kroger said it is cooperating with local law enforcement, who have secured the store and parking lot.

The store will remain closed while the police investigation continues, and Kroger has initiated counseling services for their associates, the statement said.

Number of people injured in Kroger shooting is now 14

There are now 14 people injured following the shooting at a Kroger in Collierville, Tennessee, on Thursday, according to Jennifer Casey, the town's spokesperson.

At least one person has died, Casey said.

The deceased victim is separate from the shooter, who is also deceased, Casey said.

Employees hid in freezers and offices during shooting at Kroger, police say

Several Kroger employees were found hiding in freezers or locked in offices following a shooting at the supermarket in Collierville, Tennessee, Thursday, the town's police chief, Dale Lane, said during a news conference.

"They were doing what they had been trained to do run, hide, fight," Lane said.

Around 1:30 p.m. local time, Collierville Police received a call about an active shooter at the Kroger supermarket.

When officers entered the building, they found multiple people shot. A SWAT team, along with patrol officers, and other command staff members began the process of going room to room, bringing employees out of where they were hiding and helping the victims who were injured, Lane said.

The chief said he was also part of a team that extricated a Kroger employee from the top of the building.

“At this time, we have still have a couple of active scenes that were working. The suspected shooter’s vehicle is in the parking lot and we are waiting on some additional equipment to get here, to be able to safely check that vehicle as well as some property that's on him,” Lane said.

1 victim from shooting taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital

Baptist Memorial Hospital spokesperson Kimberly Alexander told CNN that the hospital has received one victim from the shooting at Kroger in Colliersville, Tennessee.

Alexander would not provide any information on the condition of the patient.

Baptist Memorial Hospital has 22 locations, and this patient was sent to its hospital in the town of Collierville where the shooting occurred.

1 dead and 12 injured following shooting at Kroger

One person is dead and 12 others injured in a shooting at a Kroger supermarket Thursday afternoon in Colliersville, Tennessee, the town's police chief, Dale Lane, said during a news conference.

According to the chief, police believe there was one shooter, who died from what officials believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The chief said 12 victims were transported from the scene with “very serious injuries.”

The shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m. local time, Lane said.

"I've never seen anything like it," Lane said about the scene inside the supermarket.
